Environmental Impact: The rain garden is capturing stormwater runoff from a roof area of 1,525 square feet. That means that approximately 855 gallons of stormwater in a 1” rain storm are being diverted from the Combined Sewer System into the rain garden.

Installation Costs: This rain garden was subsidized by the RiverSmart Homes program – the homeowner paid a copayment of $75.00, while DDOE paid for the remaining $1,200 installation cost for the 50 square foot rain garden.

Environmental Impact: The rain barrel is capturing 130 gallons from the 1,065 square foot roof. The overflow from the rain barrel is then diverted to the rain garden, which captures the remaining stormwater. That means that approximately 600 gallons of stormwater in a 1" rain storm are being diverted from the Anacostia Watershed.

Installation Costs: This installation was subsidized by the RiverSmart Homes program. The rain barrel was a $30 copayment and the rain garden was a $75.00 copayment.

Multiple Stormwater Projects: Shade Tree and BayScaping or native landscaping

Environmental Impact: BayScaping captures stormwater from the 120 square foot area and allows for greater infiltration as well as stabilizing soils. The shade tree will reduce stormwater runoff, improve infiltration as well as improves air quality.

Installation Costs: This installation was subsidized by the RiverSmart Homes program. The shade tree was a $50 copayment for the homeowner and the BayScaping was a $100.00 copayment.
